Alli and Amy are making their way through all of the wineries Virginia has to offer and sharing their journey on their blog. For Virginia Wine Month, the two share one of their favorite pairings: quiche & Stone Tower Winery’s 2015 Wild Boar Cellars Sauvignon Blanc.

Growing up, breakfast for dinner was always a highlight!  As adults, having traditional breakfast foods for dinner is still exciting, especially since we are able to pair our meals with wine! Try this recommendation the next time you feel like you’re longing for the days of childhood or just want a simple and tasty meal.  *This is also a perfectly acceptable brunch pairing!

We recently shared a bottle of the 2015 Wild Boar Cellars Sauvignon Blanc produced by Stone Tower Winery in Leesburg and paired it with a delicious quiche!  Citrusy and lemony, the Sauvignon Blanc made for easy drinking!  Aged in a combination of stainless steel, the concrete egg and French oak barrels, the wine has notes of pink grapefruit, citrus and lemon peel.  Additionally, there is a nice minerality that adds to the expression of the wine.  It turned out to be the perfect complement to a light, fluffy quiche, balancing the citrus notes of the wine and lending to a softer finish.

quicheWe kept the quiche pretty simple, but highly recommend throwing in whatever you’ve got laying around– the point is that this should be something you could whip up after a long day as you’re settling in for a night of Netflix binge watching. For our dish we simply combined eggs, bell peppers, onions, a blend of cheeses, spinach and mushrooms into a pre-made crust.  Popped it in the oven for about 45-minutes and the perfect meal was complete. Although it was quite tasty, next time we pair this wine we are looking forward to incorporate some more adult ingredients– we’re thinking goat cheese, roasted red pepper and asparagus (YUM).

I haven’t had this pairing but love Stone Tower Winery. The tasting rooms (two! one for adults 21+ and another for folks with children and pets) and the views make it very easy to spend an entire day there with friends.
